2/5/2022 Police Commission Meeting

Police Deputy Chief Candidate

I. Call to Order/Roll Call
President Spakowicz called the meeting of the Village of Pewaukee Police Commission to order at 5:37 p.m. on February 9, 2022, in the Village Hall Board Room. Secretary McNeill conducted a roll call. The following persons were present: President David Spakowicz, Commissioners William Gehrking, Pete Rohde and Secretary Mary McNeill. Commissioner Bloedow was excused. Chief Timothy Heier and Lt. Mark Garry were also present.

II. Citizen Comments
There were no citizen comments nor were there any citizens present at the police commission meeting.

III. Approval of Minutes of Previous Meetings
The minutes of the January 26, 2022 meeting were not in final draft and therefore, no minutes were submitted for approval.

IV. Closed Session
Commissioner Gehrking made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Rohde, to move the Village of Pewaukee Commission into closed session pursuant to Wisconsin State Statute 19.85 (1) (c) to consider employment, promotion, compensation or employment evaluation responsibility, specifically to discuss action on the Police Deputy Chief candidate. Secretary McNeill then conducted a roll call vote. The Commissioners unanimously voted to move into closed session. The Commission then moved into closed session at 5:40 p.m.

V. Reconvene into Open Session
Commissioner Gehrking made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Rohde, to reconvene into open session. Secretary McNeill then conducted a roll call vote. The motion passed unanimously. The Commission then reconvened into open session at 5:47p.m.

VI. Possible Action on Deputy Chief of Police Position
Chief Heier recommended the Commission approve the creation of the position of Deputy Chief of Police. Chief Heier stated it would be an overall cost savings for the department by the elimination of two Police Lieutenant positions. In addition, Chief Heier recommended that the Police Lieutenant Mark Garry be promoted to the position of Deputy Chief of Police.

Commissioner Rohde made a motion to eliminate two Police Lieutenant positions, create a Deputy Chief of Police position and the commission recommend the appointment of Lieutenant Mark Garry to the newly created Deputy Chief of Police position. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Gehrking. Secretary McNeill conducted a roll call vote. The motion passed unanimously.

VII. Adjournment
Commissioner Rohde made a motion to adjourn, which was seconded by Commissioner Gehrking. The motion was passed unanimously. President Spakowicz adjourned the meeting at 5:55 p.m.
