Meeting Minutes
July 26, 2021

I. Call to Order/Roll Call

President Spakowicz called the meeting of the Village of Pewaukee Police Commission to order at 6:04 p.m. on July 26, 2021 in the Village Hall  Board Room. Secretary McNeill conducted a roll call. The following persons were present: President David Spakowicz, Commissioners William Gehrking, Pete Rohde and Secretary Mary Mc Neill. Commissioner Jill Bloedow was excused. Chief Timothy Heier, Lt. Mark Garry and Police  Officer Christian Fox were also present.

II. Citizen Comments

There were no citizen comments nor were there any citizens present at the police commission meeting. Commissioner Pete Rohde was presented his letter from Pewaukee Village resident Bruce Kettinger and advised of the action the Police Commission took.

III. Approval of Minutes of Previous Meetings
There was an error noted to the minutes of the May 6, 2021 meeting. This was an error to a date listed in the minutes. The date was corrected and the minutes were presented for review. Commissioner Rohde made a motion to accept the corrected minutes. Commissioner Gehrking seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

The meeting minutes from the July 19, 2021 commission minutes were not available in final draft form and therefore were not presented for approval.

IV. Closed Session

Commissioner Gehrking made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Rohde, to move the Village of Pewaukee Commission into closed session pursuant to Wisconsin State Statute 19.85 (1) (c) to consider employment, promotion, compensation or employment evaluation responsibility, specifically to evaluate applicants for the position of police officer. Secretary McNeill then conducted a roll call vote. The Commissioners unanimously voted to move into closed session. The Commission then moved into closed session at 6:07 p.m.

V. Reconvene into Open Session

Commissioner Rohde made a motion,. seconded by Commissioner Gehrking, to reconvene into open session. Secretary McNeill then conducted a roll call vote. The motion passed unanimously. The Commission then reconvened into open session at 7:29 p.m.

VI. Possible Action on Patrol Officer Candidates

The Commission interviewed a total of 5 candidates for the position of Patrol Officer between July 19, 2021 and July 26, 2021. No formal action was taken by the Commission regarding any of the current applicants. The Commission did not refer any names to Chief Heier. A discussion was conducted, and a recommendation was made to the police department to reopen the hiring process.

VII. Adjournment

Secretary McNeill made a motion to adjourn, which was seconded by Commissioner Rohde. The motion was passed unanimously. President  Spakowicz adjourned the meeting at 7:45 p.m.
