ABOUT PEWAUKEE

The Village of Pewaukee was incorporated on April 3, 1876. Pewaukee is located approximately 14 miles directly west of the City of Milwaukee at the intersection of Capitol Drive (Hwy. 190) and STH 16. In the northeastern portion of Waukesha County, Pewaukee is one of the most rapidly developing suburbs, while still maintaining it's small town charm. Pewaukee's present population is 9000, however with it's industrial base and as the home of Waukesha County Technical College, Pewaukee bustles with activity.

Pewaukee boasts one if the largest inland lakes in southeastern Wisconsin. Pewaukee Lake is 5 miles long and 14 miles around, and is well known for it's recreational activities like fishing, skiing and swimming. Pewaukee Lake is abundant with pan fish and it's musky fishing is legendary.  A beautiful sand beach is located in the village on the northeastern shore of Pewaukee Lake making it a summer recreation hot spot.

Pewaukee was recently named a Wisconsin Main Street Community, further evidence of our desire to maintain our charm while meeting the reality of growth for the year 2000 and beyond. Want to get to know us better?  Come and visit, or call the Chamber of Commerce at (262)691-8851 or Positively Pewaukee at (262) 695-9735.

POSITIVELY PEWAUKEE - A MAIN STREET COMMUNITY

The Village of Pewaukee was selected as one of four 1996 State of Wisconsin "Main Street" communities. The Wisconsin Main Street program awards communities with five years of support and technical assistance to help in revitalizing their downtown business districts. A four point approach is stressed which includes, design, promotion, organization and economic restructuring. Benefits of the program include protecting and strengthening an existing tax base, attracting new businesses and creating new jobs. A strong emphasis is placed on historic preservation during this program.

The Main Street program will help Pewaukee design and carry out new streetscaping and landscaping plans along the lakefront, assist in the design of a bell tower at the lake and initiate other downtown improvements.

For more information or to pledge support contact Positively Pewaukee at P.O. Box 373, Pewaukee, WI 53072  or call (262) 695-9735
